With Forterro Polska we work on projects that challenge and excite us. Complex, ambitious and deeply integrated with real business operations. This is where strategy meets execution and design supports technology rather than fighting it.
Forterro Polska is a company specialising in the design of digital systems and has been working with us for a long time on the modernisation of its flagship system – BPSC ERP (formerly known as Impuls EVO). This ERP system manages processes ranging from production and logistics to administration, providing comprehensive control over an organisation or company, much like a cockpit. The problem arose when the system began to expand, with each department adding its own features – almost like a living organism. Forterro’s customers love this flagship product for its flexibility, but this multi-directional growth brought a challenge to the fore: the BPSC ERP system was becoming less intuitive and harder to navigate.
This is where EDISONDA stepped in. Our collaboration with Forterro Polska began with the search for a proof of concept. We aimed to showcase how BPSC ERP could look with a cohesive, modern interface. Aligning with the client’s expectations, we prioritised gradual testing of these changes rather than implementing them all at once.
We carefully balanced flexibility with clarity. There was also a nagging question: would it make business sense to limit users’ freedom within the system?
New rebranding guidelines and technology compromises were an added challenge. At the same time, our team supported Forterro in the development of several other features, including mobile dashboards and the Employee Portal, effectively becoming an external UX partner for our client.
Next year, Forterro Polska plans to release further updates to the recently launched BPSC 2024.Q4 version, incorporating elements we’ve contributed to throughout this journey. But let’s start at the beginning…
Modern design for proven solutions
When, after more than a year of initial collaboration, the client asked us to help modernise BPSC ERP, our role was clear: to create a cohesive, modern vision for an ERP system that would integrate all key functions into one intuitive solution. We called this concept ‘360’ because it represented a holistic approach – the system was designed to support every department in the business, from production to administration.
Our goal wasn’t just to refresh the look. We aimed to redesign functionalities so the system would better meet users’ needs. This meant combining existing technologies, various touch interfaces, and mobile applications into a unified ecosystem.
Ultimately, the project presented many challenges, mainly due to technological constraints and the habits of existing ERP system users, but we successfully achieved our goals. Through close collaboration and Forterro Polska’s openness to new ideas, we developed a solution that not only looks modern, but also provides users with clarity without sacrificing flexibility. This effort resulted in the creation of the BPSC 2024.Q4 concept – a new version that retains its complexity while becoming more intuitive and tailored to the needs of organisations.
However, together with the client’s teams, we had to keep in mind that we were working with a product that has a long history. Previously known as Impuls, the system offered by our client has been on the market for nearly 30 years and was in dire need of a refreshed appearance. An immediate, full redesign wasn’t feasible, so we focused on a graphical ‘skin’ that modernised the look without altering the system’s core. This was a quick and effective solution that provided users with a more modern interface here and now.
Tailor-made technology
In addition to our work on BPSC ERP, we have also been involved in other projects and have gained first-hand experience of the versatility of Forterro Polska’s offering. Each project presented its own unique challenges and required adaptation to specific conditions, but they all shared a common goal – the need for modern, user-centric solutions.
Mobile and web applications
Alongside efforts to improve the ERP system, we focused on creating mobile and web applications that were less dependent on the core BPSC ERP system. This allowed us to take a more modern approach, resulting in accessible and user-friendly interfaces. These applications supported various operational functions and improved the consistency of the user experience, which had a direct impact on the convenience and efficiency of their work.
Designed from the ground up, the Employee Portal, together with the BPSC Pracownik mobile app, serves as a central information tool, allowing employees to access HR data, submit requests and manage leave. This project required close collaboration with Forterro’s development team to ensure seamless integration of design and functionality.
The start screens, designed as a management dashboard, provide employees with quick access to key data, such as charts and contextual information. The implementation of these screens was well received by the client’s team, who appreciated their clarity and ease of use.
In other projects, due to time constraints, instead of a complete redesign, we provided the client with recommendations and individual screens that allowed them to independently adapt the applications to the new branding. This was essential for maintaining visual consistency, particularly in warehouse and courier applications, which needed to meet the guidelines of other entities.
In all the tasks carried out by EDISONDA, adaptability to current needs was a priority. The design of screens, navigation and components, as well as recommendations for existing applications, required constant collaboration with Forterro’s technical teams.
A specialised interface for unique tasks
One of the more unique projects was designing the interface for a weighing system used in food production – SysWag. This project is an example of how design can be adapted to meet the specific needs of the workplace.
We had to account for entirely different conditions than those of an office environment—the device needed to function flawlessly in challenging conditions where handling it with dirty protective gloves is the norm. As a result, we designed an interface with large buttons and clear icons, making it easier to use the system on production floors.
Partnership-based collaboration
Each project undertaken by Forterro Polska and EDISONDA required a unique, tailored approach. For each initiative, we created solutions customised to specific requirements and long-term goals.
Working on several projects at the same time, our team almost ‘blended’ into Forterro’s structures, often working as part of their internal team. This allowed the client to receive full consultancy and technical support, while we focused on providing strategic support, building trust and understanding common challenges.
Our long-term involvement allows us to better understand Forterro Polska’s internal processes, tailor proposed solutions to the client’s goals, and account for existing and realistic technological constraints. At every step, we work closely with development teams to efficiently implement changes and ensure the visual and functional consistency of the BPSC ERP system.
This project gave us additional and highly valuable experience in designing ERP solutions for large organisations. It strengthened our position as a company that combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of the strategic needs of our customers.
Meanwhile, Forterro Polska, thanks to its cooperation with us, not only received a new, integrated and visually refined version of its products, but also tangible support in adapting to the challenges of digital transformation.
